I started my gym adventure the same day my last trash plant turned perfect. I sat on the bench across from my murky camp. Thinking back on my first day here and eating some breakfast. What a great time I had had so far. Then I packed up a few things that I thought would be useful, like my sale table and some extra trash fruits. I said goodbye to my trash kids, and headed down to the gym. I was pumped!
I got to work right away, in the little basement behind the gym, planting the ingredients for the cream I would be making to sell. My goal was to get at least one of each plant to perfect level. While planting, Dusty came down and watched for a little bit, "What you plantin'?" She asked me. "Oh, just some plants I think will be useful to gym goers," I told her. We were soon joined by Hank, the ex-con. He waved and smiled strangely at me.
Later I made some baked potatoes for everyone. They were all getting murky and hungry. While talking to Dusty again, I noticed Sunshine had shown up. Boy was I happy to see him. I didn't like the way Hank kept looking at me and trying to make awkward small talk. I hoped if he saw all my interest in Sunshine that maybe he'd get the hint that we were a couple, even though it wasn't official.
I stayed up late and danced with Dusty, she sure was chattier than I remembered. I finally was so tired I went to bed. I had a restless nights sleep though, because it seemed no one else was interested in sleep and cooked and talked and carried on outside my tent way into the morning.
When I finally decided I couldn't try to sleep anymore, I went to workout some. I needed to max my fitness skill and get in shape so the mayor wouldn't be suspicious about me being here. I ran into the day trainer, Nora. I guess Eli only worked afternoons and evenings. She seemed nice. I got pretty murky and hungry so after a trashcan meal, I used some deodorant and then worked out a bit more before tending some of my plants. There were some already to evolve!
Later I was trying to have a sale at the back side of the gym. Only one guy showed up and he wasn't interested in my creams. Eli arrived at work and came back to see what was going on. He didn't seem to sure about this whole plan after all. I tried to reassure him, but I wasn't feeling to sure myself. My first sale attempt was awful. So after practicing on my guitar for a while, I called it a day.
The following day I was on the bus to Granite Falls. I needed to hunt down some dragon flies to make my energy cream. It and the deodorant cream were the only things I could sell until I finished my gym task. I did some fishing and collecting and tried to work on some sort of sales idea to get people interested in the benefits of my creams. It was a long day.
Early the next morning I woke and made creams until the bus came to take me back home. I hadn't been there very long and noticed a bunch of Murklanders exercising and getting murky. I talked to a couple of Turbo Pumpkins and Willow about the creams, then I set up my table. Even though there were a bunch of them in desperate need of deodorant no one bought any. It was a slightly depressing day once again.
The next morning I was practicing my guitar tunes when Nora showed up for work. She stopped to listen and said I was getting good. That made me happy because it looked like the only way I was going to make any money here, was by playing for tips. That afternoon I was out looking for more potatoes and saw the Mayor's son sitting next to some grilled fruit. I went to join him and he said,"So I heard you're living at the gym. Doesn't it get pretty stinky there?" I tried to convince him I wasn't 'living' there, that I was just hanging out. I'm not too sure he believed me. He gave me a strange look and left.
That evening I went to the hot springs with Sunshine. I figured we needed some alone time to keep our relationship afloat. We talked and I told him how I was worried because no one was interested in my deodorant. He told me to relax and give it time. Then he offered to give me a shoulder massage. "Wow, Styles! You sure are, like, getting some nice muscles, and stuff," he complemented me. When we were saying goodbye, I showed him just how strong I was getting by giving him a fancy dip kiss. I think it was more than he expected, but he staggered off happily.
I nibbled my trash fruit and headed back to the gym. I wasn't really sleepy so practiced my guitar some before heading down to take care of my plants. Heather B. came down to see what was going on and we talked a bunch. She was a really nice and friendly lady. She wasn't too sure about my deodorant.
"I just don't think Murklanders mind getting that murky. I mean, this is Murkland after all," she told me. Then she began telling me a story about how she got the murkiest she had ever been in her whole life. When we went above ground, Ronni had made a little fire so I cooked a hotdog, then tried to have another sale. A few people showed up, and I sold a few jars. Yevette came, but she never bought anything at any of my sales.
After another lame sale, I decided I'd try my hand at busking for tips and started playing. Eli had just showed up at work and he was my first tipper. It was about that time the Mayor walked by. 'Perfect timing,' I thought. I noticed Pookey walking up behind him. He stopped and listened for a little bit. I played for some time, but the gym was kinda empty so I didn't make that much.
This was Friday, I had been here about a week and had not made much money. My plants were doing great, though. I was able to make tons of deodorant cream. But you see, I had to make another 15,000$ to prove that my deodorant idea was a good one and would help the economy here in Murkland. I just wasn't sure now if it was going to turn out how I had hoped.
Saturday morning I woke and caught the bus to Granite Falls. I went to visit Kaci. I talked with her for some time and when I left, I felt better. As I made more deodorant that night, I made a promise to myself to not give up. Murkland didn't need quitters. It needed doers. And I was going to do this!
