Sunday morning, week 11, I had just finished my garden work when Sunshine showed up. He was in a strange mood, but since he always seemed to be I just played along. He winked at me and made some flirty comments before walking off, very confidently, down the side walk. After he left I roasted some marshmallows I had found.
That afternoon I had a visit from Dusty. After she left I sang some to myself. I was still working on some song ideas I had. Later, I lit a bonfire and danced a little, but then got lonely so went to bed. I wished my plant would hurry up and get perfect already.
Monday morning I was enjoying the sunrise while eating my freshly rummaged salad. Not long after, Brennachan invited me to go to the Puffer Dome. She asked me some about my gym plans and I showed her some of my deodorant and how to apply it. Then we danced together for a little bit.
While she went to get a drink, I met a couple of strange looking creatures. They were giant green raccoons who could talk! I had heard about them being here in Murkland, but never seen any until now. I watched them eating the puffer fish nigiri. They ate in perfect time with each other. After they left, Brennachan joined me again, "Those raccoons must have tough stomachs," I told her, "I have heard of a lot of people getting sick and even dying from eating here lately." I was happy she and the other Freegans were vegetarian. Soon she had to leave so I went and did some fishing.
That evening, after fertilizing my plants, I made some franks and beans. I decided having a cooked meal once in awhile wouldn't hurt. I had already reached my money goal for the mayor. It was just that one plant that was holding me up now!
Tuesday morning I watered my trash babies, rummaged for some breakfast, mmm trashcan oatmeal, and then went to the library to visit Myra.
Jeep Girl showed up to work the coffee bar, while I went up stairs to read until Myra showed up. It was strange she wasn't there already. While reading a book about the history of Murkland, a young woman sat down next to me. It turned out she was the new Librarian, Mizuki. Myra had disappeared from Murkland. That made me feel somewhat sad so, after watering the trash plant out back, I went home and just went to bed.
The next morning I had just rummaged a salad from the trash can. It was really fresh so I looked around to see if who ever put it there was still close. I saw a young lady walking away so ran up to her and introduced myself. Her name was, Leah Monroe. She and her dad lived with the Fisher clan from Nukecrest. "Yeah, I put that salad in there," she replied, with some attitude, "One of the Planters gave it to me. I only took it because he was cute." Then Willow jogged by and so I introduced them both. After they left, I shoveled the salad into my mouth, which got me a little 'side-eye' from the local gardener.
After I finished my breakfast of trash salad, I went back to look at my plants. I looked at the one little stubborn plant that wouldn't turn perfect. I remembered what Forest had told me about talking to them, so I told it a story about the little bone fish who was waiting for his lady fish to finish up her projects so they could swim off into the deep blue together. After that I worked on my song, but the story made me think of my own little bone fish so I went to visit Sunshine. No one was home, so I danced for a little bit and then decided to make them all dinner.
Soon all the Freegans showed up and I went to greet them. I gave Sunshine a great big hug, which made him really happy. He told me about what they had been up to and then we all went back to eat. Forest Tree really loved the grilled fruit I made, "Mmmm, MMMmmm, mmm!!" he mummbled while eating. "Why don't you just, marry it and stuff," Sunshine poked fun at him. I was feeling creative, so I made a new drink. I called it a 'Trasharitta'.
I offered the drink to Sunshine and he sniffed the glass,"Mmm, smells, uh..you know, great," he didn't sound too sure, but he did take a small sip. Then he just held the drink the rest of the night, while we all ate and chatted. "You ever gonna drink that, or you just like holding it?" Veegan asked him later. "I'm not thirsty yet," he grumbled his reply and gave me a nervous smile. I don't know if he ever drank it because it was late and I went home.
Thursday morning I rummaged around for some more food, then did some relaxing reading in a fitness book. While learning some boxing tips, I noticed Brennachan and Pookey talking on the sidewalk. They talked for some time. Was this all the proof I needed?! Well, I decided it must be one of those unspoken things and I wasn't going to 'speak' it if they weren't. As I ate my trash fruit that night, I wondered if my last plant was taking so long on purpose. Like maybe it knew I had plans and it didn't want me to leave .
Friday I was hiding in my 'pee' bush waiting for the mail lady to pass by. Normally she only came by on Mondays, but lately she was always stomping down the sidewalk. I had never paid any of the bills she left and had been trying my best to avoid her. That evening, in an attempt to kill time while I waited on my plant, I went to the festival lot. There weren't too many people there that evening. But I had some fun.
Jeep Girl showed up and she and a couple of Freegans danced with me around the bonfire. I stayed until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and then headed back home for my nightly trash fruit before crawling in my tent.
Then, bright and early Saturday morning, my last trash fruit evolved into a perfect plant like the rest of it's trashy family. I had done it. I had completed the first challenge of Murkland! I was now officially one of them and could hold my murky head up high. Now it was off to the gym to see what I could get into there.
