Week seven was here. Sunday morning I was trying to eat leftover grilled fruit. I still didn't know how Sahara could eat this old stuff. After breakfast I took the bus to Nukecrest. I wanted to visit Alma. I had finally finished the book she gave me. It was some old journal. I had a suspicion it was hers. As I wandered through the old building she lived in, I saw some pretty interesting things. Like a room with an old conveyor belt full of rocks, minerals, and strange gems.
On the upper level I found the room Alma and her friends had been living in. She walked in behind me and greeted me,"So you've come for your answers?" She smiled slyly. "Yes," I replied. "First you will have to beat me at a dance-off!" She exclaimed, and turned on a little radio. I thought for sure I'd win, but she pulled out some crazy moves. I asked her if she could still, please answer some things, I had waited for so long now. She agreed, but first took me down to get something to eat.
She left me in a room with her old co-worker named Derek, and went to do something. We chatted for a bit and then he said,"Alma was so happy when you showed up in Murkland. She often wondered what happened to you. After your parents died, she took care of you for a short while." I was shocked,"You mean she knew my parents?!" "Of course! We all did. They worked here for years." Then Alma came back with her friend, Lloyd, and we all went out side to talk.
After the men went back inside, Alma sat me down and told me more about my parents. "Since Derek spilled the beans, I might as well tell you everything," she chuckled. She told me about the work they used to do here. And how my mom was working in the labs with strange chemicals the CDC sent over, when she found out she was pregnant. That was why my hair lost color as it grew out. It was also why I was immune to the plague that was caused by the chemical spill at the factory. She also told me I had no other living family.
The sun was setting when I finally started home. I was now covered in murk from sitting close to the fire for so long. What a day it had been. I had always wondered about my family. It was sad to know they were all gone. Part of me had always known that, but then, part of me always hoped it wasn't true. As I ate my fruit that night I felt sad and all alone.
Monday I was in desperate need of a shower so went to Granite Falls. I also wanted some time to meditate on everything I had learned the night before. I played horseshoes a little bit and then went to visit Kaci. I told her about my family and she reminded me of all the great people I had met in Murkland and the friendships I had made. "What is family, really, but a group of people who love each other and share their life, no matter what may happen," she told me. She was right, I had a family. I felt a little better that night as I ate my fruit.
Tuesday morning, after I returned home, I held a sale to get rid of some of the items I had piling up. That evening I went to the Freegan's place. I wanted to tell them what I discovered about my past. After using the bush, Forest Tree greeted me with a big hug,"I just wanted to tell you I had such a great time the other day!" "I did too," I replied. Well, Sunshine was standing over by the bushes, and when he heard us and saw the hugging he got upset.
While I was talking with Forest, I saw him walk by with his head hung, looking really sad. I had to find out what was wrong so went looking for him. He was in one of the bunk rooms talking with Veegan and Willow. They were trying to console him. When I asked what happened and they explained, I let out a big sigh. I told them about Forest's visit and the dance lesson. Then Sunshine felt even worse for jumping to conclusions. I tried to cheer him up and said, "Hey, how about giving me one of those awesome massages you are always bragging about?" He agreed, and I have to say, it was pretty incredible.
I jokingly offered to give him one, and he accepted. He said it wasn't half bad for my first try. Then Brennachan came up to check on him. I guess she had heard what happened. He grinned and said,"Everything is cool, and stuff. You know, just a crazy misunderstanding." We laughed. It was late so I said goodbye and jogged home. As I ate my fruit, I thought happily about the Freegans. They were the perfect example of a family united, not by blood, but by love.
Wednesday I invited Sunshine to the hot springs with me. I never really got to talk to him about my news last night. I whispered to him some of the things I saw at Alma's factory, and told him how they try and keep it a secret. He gave me a hug and said he was sorry about my parents. While we were soaking he moved closer to me and said he was actually happy I found out about my family. I was a little confused and he explained that it meant we weren't related. You see, after the Simpocalypse a lot of people lost family and didn't know who they could be related too.
When I asked why that mattered he looked at me in a way that made me blush and turn away, a little embarrassed. He took my hands,"It matters because, you know, because of how I feel about you." I looked into those big eyes of his and knew what he meant. Even if he couldn't say it, it was written all over his face. "I understand," I smiled at him. Later when we were playing on the mud slide he surprised me with a flower. I didn't even know roses grew in Murkland.
When we were saying goodbye, he gave me close hug and said he had a wonderful time. "I did too," I agreed, "and thank you for the rose." I was feeling bold and leaned in and gave him a little kiss. He looked surprised and smiled. Then he disappeared.(This was a glitch in the game but I thought it fit Sunshine so well I had to share.) When I got home I happily ate my trash fruit....
....But I didn't go straight to bed,I was too happy, so I talked to my plants and told them about my evening.
Thursday was a simple day of collecting and a yard sale. Although my customers were not really interested in shopping. Pookey was trying to show off the amount of push ups he could do, while the other two guys argued about how many he would finish. Later I daydreamed while eating dinner and then danced some before eating my fruit and heading to bed.
Friday I was going to fish and then head to the hot springs, but Sunshine invited me over to hangout. When I showed up, Brennachan took off somewhere, "You two have fun," she called over her shoulder. I was about to wave goodbye when Sunshine grabbed me and planted a big kiss on me. "That's some way to say hello," I grinned. "Just greeting my lady in style," he replied. Forest Tree saw us and walked over with a goofy grin on his face. 'Wait, did he just call me his lady?....'
I excused myself and went to use the bush. I couldn't help but notice that Sunshine looked rather proud of himself. While in the bush, I overheard them talking. Forest asked about our relationship and Sunshine told him,"We're just gonna, you know, ride the currant and see where it takes us. Like, if we float into more serious waters, then we'll see what happens then." He sure liked to use his metaphors. After I joined him again we danced together for some time.
Then chatted while watching the bonfire die down. He must of been feeling really happy because he started fire dancing. I was having a good time, even if I was stinking it up like a four day old trash pile. I made us all some drinks and we chatted some more. I am not sure where the other Freegans were that evening.
After Forest went to sleep, Sunshine and I talked a little while more. Then he wandered off to the bushes while I ate my daily trash fruit. When he didn't return, I went to look for him and found him getting ready for bed. I told him thanks for the nice time, and gave him a hug goodnight
Saturday morning I made myself some deodorant cream. I was super stinky from missing a bath day and couldn't work on my plants. After my gardening, Dusty stopped by to visit. She told me I smelled of herbs. I told her I was covered in cream, but it was my last bottle. She told me to go visit the Cliff Dwellers, but didn't say why. She just winked and laughed, then walked off back home.
I was super curious about what she could mean so got on the bus as soon as I could. When I showed up I awkwardly interrupted a flirty conversation between Precipice and her husband, Crag. He was very friendly, almost a little too friendly, and offered to show me around. Well some how I got lost, but boy what I found! Plants! I wanted to ask if I could harvest a few and ran into Precipice. She was mad from when her husband flirty talked to me earlier. I tried to apologize, but she said to just take what I wanted and leave.
When I was leaving I ran into Ridge the Cliff Dweller. He was dressed strangely for a Murklander. I introduced myself and told him about my visit and how I felt bad for upsetting Precipice. He said not to worry, that she was often upset by Crag's flirting. Then he jogged off. It was late so I went ahead and ate my fruit before going home. Back at my camp I made some fresh deodorant cream before gong to bed. Week seven had come to an end.
