I couldn't believe I was starting my 5th week here. That Sunday morning I was still feeling a little blue. I tried to read the book Alma had given me, but couldn't focus. Dusty stopped by to say she was free later that afternoon if I wanted to hangout. I told her sure, that I just needed to take care of my plants first. I used my yoga mat to clear my mind some. I was feeling a little better, I even managed to whistle a little tune while gardening.
While taking care of my plants I thought about Sunshine and decided I'd be the first to break this silence between us so I stopped by the Freegans on my way to the Burner camp. No one was home.
The radio was on and playing a super catchy song so I started dancing.
Soon Dusty showed up and joined me. She had heard the music from next door.
I noticed my friend Yvette walking by and asked her to join us.
We were having fun and I almost could have forgotten about my 'problem' but then he showed up, along with the rest of the Freegans. "Sounds like someone is having a party!" Veegan exclaimed. All of them joined us and started dancing. Well almost all of them. Sunshine just stood over by the road. Forest Tree tried to get him to join us but he made up some lame excuse.
I couldn't dance anymore. So I offered to make dinner for them. Well, I forgot they were all vegetarians and made chicken. Dusty really liked it though, "This stuff is fantastic!" She said, gobbling it up. To make things worse, Sunshine snuffly made some other dinner instead. He still wouldn't look at me. I went over and made a drink at their bar. Autumn and Veegan joined me and I tried to make conversation the best I could.
We were joined by Brennachan and she made some more drinks and we chatted some. I didn't see Sunshine again the rest of the night. Later I found out he had been hiding behind one of the bushes, trying to listen to our conversations. Forest Tree asked him what he was doing. "Just you know, hanging out and stuff," he had replied. "Why don't you just go talk with her?" Forest asked. "Because I was a total trash pile the other night," he told him,"Besides, I doubt she even wants to talk to me, you know. I think I made her like, really mad and stuff."
When I was leaving, Willow Creek ran up to me, "Hey, I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. Sunshine can be such a baby sometimes, and you know how babies like to pout," she laughed. I know she was trying to cheer me up so I smiled and told her thanks. When I got back to my camp I went straight to bed. The evening had taken it's toll on me.
Monday I was back at the hot springs. I was lost in thought I barely noticed Dusty join me. "Oh hey," I tried my best to be cheerful. We talked for a while and I felt myself becoming happier. Later I met another lady talking with Jeep Girl. Her name was, Heather B. Simster, she was from Nukecrest. I also ran into the bartender from the night of my episode with Sunshine. Thankfully he didn't recognize me.
When I got home I was still in a mildly good mood so I worked in my garden. After that, I had a plate of freshly grilled fruit. I was going to just go to bed and ate my trash fruit, but was still feeling hungry so had another plate of the grilled stuff. As I ate I thought about how boring this all was without friends. I missed Sunshine.
Tuesday I had something very uplifting and exciting happen! I woke up to find my last two trash piles had turned into plants. I now had all sixteen! I was really happy. After I tended them all I celebrated by packing on some deodorant. Then I decided to have a yard sale, since I was in such a great mood. Pookey showed up and bought another figureine.
After the sale I wanted to celebrate more, so I put on a dress I had made. It turned out the package I got from the hermit was full of old scraps of fabric. I had managed to make a couple of half-way decent looking things to wear. So I headed down to the music festival lot and after trying out the bubble blower, I ran into Forest Tree. I told him about my plants. He was happy for me and gave me a big hug. A few seconds later, Sunshine came jogging in. He saw us talking, stopped and casually started dancing nearby. I knew he was trying to listen to our conversation.
I told Forest I had been practicing some new dance moves and he wanted to see them. So I moved over closer to the music and showed off. When I finished, I saw a strange woman flirting with Sunshine. He acted disgusted by what she said. He saw me watching and looked embarrassed. I had an idea and motioned for him to join me. To my surprise he came over, and I challenged him to a dance off. "Winner gets to name their prize. Deal?" I asked. He agreed and we started dancing.
Thankfully I won, but it was close. "So what do you want?" He asked. "What I want more than anything else, right now, is for us to be friends again," I was still trying to catch my breath, "I want to forget about that night at the Puffer Dome. I just want my best friend back. I..I miss you." He stood silent for a moment, then looked up at me, "If that's what you really want..." "It is," I replied. "Then, I'll try," and he turned and bounced off in his happy Sunshine way. I jogged home in high spirits and ate my fruit before having a good night sleep.
Wednesday after I had a soak at the hot springs, I found some lunch setting on a table. No one was around so I helped myself. I had just taken a bite when Kaci came walking down the side walk and greeted me. "There you are," she smiled. I thanked her for the package she had given me and told her about my dance challenge last night. "Do you think he just wants to go back to being friends?" She asked. "I hope so. I believe him when he said he will try," I shrugged. We chatted some more, then she left.
I went back to the hot springs for a little bit, but didn't stay very long. Willow Creek was having a rather loud and angry discussion with one of the Turbo Pumpkins. I didn't need to get into anymore drama so I left. Once home, I happily ate my fruit of the trash plant and went to sleep.
Thursday afternoon I went collecting and then dropped by the Freegan's place. They were almost never there when I came to visit but always seemed to show up not long after I arrived. I was starting to get a little murky, the green fog was back, so I used their grill to whip up some deodorant. I slapped it on just in time. Then went to greet them all.
While everyone else went back to get something to eat, Sunshine stayed with me. He kept smiling nervously so I asked him to cloud gaze with me. That was one of his favorite things, so I hoped it would help him relax. It worked, some. He was about to tell me something but Forest came over, "Brennachan made some tofu dogs if you two are hungry," he announced. "Yeah, better get some before they're gone," Autumn said, joining us.
"I'm not really in the mood for dogs," Sunshine said. I remembered I had brought some grilled fruit and offered him that. He agreed and we both grabbed a plate.
After we ate, I chatted with him. I tried to act like old times. I wanted him to know I was totally over the whole Puffer Dome thing. He smiled and listened but wasn't exactly his old self. Soon he said he was tired and went to bed. I spent a little time with Willow and we watched Brennachan practice her fire dance. Then I jogged home. I was still trying to keep positive about my friendship with Sunshine. 'Time heals all wounds....Right?' I thought as I ate my fruit. I sure hoped so anyway.
Friday morning was spent with my plants and holding a yard sale. Pookey was back again to add to is collection. I also met a man in an orange jumpsuit who just wanted to chat, but for some reason we didn't really get along.
That afternoon I had the bus driver pick up some of my friends from Nukecrest and we went to the hot springs. It would of turned out super fun, I'm sure. But that guy, the one right there with the black beard, he showed up and for some reason all the girls just left. I wondered if I should too, but he got in the water with me and was blocking the exit. I just kept nodding my head and smiling while he talked, hoping he would leave.
I was there longer than I wanted to be and when I got home it was late. After my fruit, it was straight to bed. Some days just don't go the way you plan.
Saturday morning was spent eating a baked potato breakfast and then meet and greet out on the sidewalk. There was always someone to talk to, they just never stayed very long. The Freegans were out jogging most days, and did always stop to say hi.
I was in the mood to explore, and since I had almost maxed my gardening skill and I was very charismatic, I met the requirements to visit the Mayor's lot. I thought I'd let them know of my progress. They were all returning from somewhere when I showed up and hopped into the little moat surrounding their home. The water looked really...murky and there were strange fish swimming in it. I thought I'd better catch one first to make sure they were harmless. They were.
While exploring for another way to get to their front door, I discovered they had some parsley plants. I was surprised and happy. This meant less trips to Granite Falls and I could save more money. I wanted to ask first but couldn't figure out how to get up there, so I just took a couple. I did notice the stairs to their home after I took my seat on the bus home. 'Oh well, next time,' I thought. I whistled a happy tune that night while I fertilized my garden. It was a pretty good week. I didn't know what was going to happen with Sunshine and I, but hoped for the best. Then I nibbled on my fresh trash fruit and went to bed.
