This is a Murky Interlude
Komar nervously approached the throne, rehearsing his words in his mind. Mistress Iritha sat silently watching him, smiling inwardly at his obvious cowardice. Komar cleared his throat, knowing her silence meant she waited for him to speak. "Mistress, Scout Tomek has returned, and...well it seems," he nervously cleared his throat again,"It seems he has not accomplished his task."
Iritha's anger boiled inside of her and although she knew it was somewhat misplaced, she raged at him,"Why must I be surrounded by fools! Were not you in charge of Tomek's training?! Did I not give you specific instructions on how to teach him?! Tell him I wish to speak with him as soon as he is debriefed," she paused and narrowed her eyes,"And let us hope, Komar, that The Mother is just as forgiving with you as I am."
Sometime later, Tomek stood in the control room, explaining himself to the High Mistress. He bumbled his way through his story, aware of her judgmental gaze constantly upon him.
"Please, Mistress, I beg of you to give me another chance to prove myself to you," he pleaded, "I will not fail you again! I swear on The Mother's vine, just give me another chance."
She narrowed her eyes at him, taking in his pathetic pleas. "You will receive one more chance, Tomek. Let us both hope you do not fail this time or I will be forced to make an example of you. You will leave as soon as possible."
That same day, Tomek stood in front of the space portal adjusting the settings. He muttered a few curses under his breath. He hated his part in all this. It was not what he wanted out of his life at all. He wanted to stay on Obesk 4, painting by the Sapphire Sea. But he was cursed to follow The Mistress, his mother.
After she received the news that Tomek had safely returned to Terra 7, Iritha decided she would take her refreshment early that evening. She sighed as she slowly climbed into her rest pod. She had always regretted having Tomek. He was the product of a heated passion and constantly reminded her of the Balrine she had been betrayed by.
And yet he was her son. The only child she had allowed herself to have. Whispers from The Mother told her to keep him around, that he had a purpose in her divine plan, but Iritha could not possible see what it was. Tomek had been a clumsy fool since before he could walk. She pushed the thoughts from her mind and tried to focus on the sound of the pod.
The soft whirring of the machine lulled her into a peaceful state. Her mind slowly thought of the task ahead. Surely if Tomek succeeded this time the plan would start to fall into place. All that was really needed was the one they called, The Grey Man. He had a peace of information they needed to continue The Mother's plan. Hopefully the last piece to this puzzle. Her eyes grew heavy and she soon drifted off into sleep.
