The Dating Game. It's the best way I can describe what I am going to tell you next. You see, a group of ladies volunteered to each go on a date with me. The one who I'd have the best time with and build the strongest relationship with would be the one I was to pursue as my mate.
The Mayor came by one afternoon and asked me how my search for a partner was going. I told him not too well. He asked me to look at the clouds with him. And then he began talking to me about how women were like clouds. I really couldn't see the comparison myself, at first. Then he explained how they are all different and each have a weakness and strength. And I would have to find someone who made up for what I lacked. Someone to make a 'whole' with.
He knew I was having a hard time talking with ladies so he arranged for me to meet 2 groups of women who were willing to go on a date with me. The first group met me at the old CDC building. Which, as you know, is now a dance club. I spent the evening dancing and chatting with each one.
The second group met at the, Scootin Salamandar in Nukecrest. All the women were friendly and beautiful. I must say I was a sweaty, nervous mess those two nights. I remember my face hurt from smiling so much too. I was excited to think that one of these ladies could become my wife. Now this is were the 'fun' begins. Although looking back on it, this was one of the most nerve racking things I had ever done in my life.
The first lady I asked out was Lilly Oddfruit. She had lovely red hair and a bright cheerful smile. I asked her to Scruffy's diner for breakfast. Well, it started off okay, but soon everything I said was wrong. So the whole date ended in an awkward mess.
That evening I asked, Fidgety Atom out to a quiet park to talk and so we could get to know each other. It started off really nice. We laughed and even shared a few flirty remarks.
But by night fall it was a different story. I am not sure what went wrong but she started making up excuses to not see me again. I must of said something wrong. Maybe it was the six kids thing. I don't know.
The following morning I was back at Scruffy's with an adventurous looking young lady named Valeda. Now I should of know from the strange way the infected waiter was hissing and spitting at us that this wasn't going to turn out as good as I hoped, but we tried. We just didn't seem to connect. In fact Veegan had shown up and Valeda seemed more interested in him than me.
Later that evening I went to the hot springs with Martee Moses. She was a great joke teller. Our date started off with us having a good time laughing and sharing funny moments we had both experienced here in Murkland.
Then I asked her to join me at a table to just talk, more serious like, a little. I really wanted to know her better. But she went over and stood near one of the grills and started talking to it. Well it was all sort of down hill after that.
There was still time left in the day so I asked another young lady I had met to go to the gym with me. Her name was Felicia. I know you are thinking, 'A date at the gym?' but we actually had a pretty good time. I thought she was going to be the one. She even gave me a really nice hug goodbye. But there was just something missing between us.
The next morning I was back at Scruffy's. This time with a young lady named Faith. We had a lovely time talking but it didn't seem to go anywhere other than that. I think we were both a little un-nerved by the public displays of the Mayor and his wife.
That evening I asked Ambrosia back to the Scootin Salamandar. I was starting to feel worn down by all the social activities I had been doing the past few days, so at first we just did some stargazing. It was a beautiful clear night and was lovely to watch the stars blink to life in the sky. You could say it was almost romantic.
But then when I asked her to sit on a bench with me and talk, well I guess said something wrong because she got really mad at me and started talking really fast and shouting. I kept saying sorry until the date was over and she left.
I spent the next day taking care of things at home and trying to get my focus back. That night I asked a woman named, Luna Mooney out with me for a stroll along the sidewalk near the library. I told her about the two bestsellers I had wrote and well, I guess she thought I was bragging or something. Our date didn't go too smooth after that.
In the morning I went to a park with Avry Nelson. I really liked her but we only seemed to disagree on most things. She also didn't pick up on any of my meager attempts to flirt. Another date that didn't end too well.
Then there was Sandy with the dark brown hair. I really liked her too. She was sweet and even liked your potato recipe I had made for our dinner. We had a really nice time together. That is until she started to get all close and wanted to cuddle.
I don't know what happened here either. I thought I was doing things right but she started to look embarrassed and then I started to feel like I was doing everything wrong. I was happy when the date was finally over. I was starting to feel like I was never going to make it work with anyone.
That was until I went to dinner with Ony. There was just something in the way she got excited about seeing chili on the menu at Scruffy's. Her eyes, I loved that color, they grew wide and she made the cutest face. I ordered us each a bowl and a glass of water.
After we ordered we started talking. I mentioned I wrote songs and liked to sing so she asked me to sing something for her. She listened attentively and didn't seem to notice when I nervously messed up.
We seemed to always have something to talk about. Then when our food came and we had each eaten a little, I decided to tell her about the Mayor's requirement for me to have children. I told her he wanted us to have a full house, so I needed someone to have five kids with me.
She confessed she had heard about this from one of the other girls I had been out with and that she honestly still wasn't sure she wanted to have kids. She told me she liked me, she really liked me, but kids...
I told her to take a few days to think about it. I still needed to plant my cowplants, so there was no rush. I told her where I lived and that she should come by and look the place over to see if she would be happy living there with me. She agreed.
After she left, I noticed you and Sunshine were there eating dinner together. I asked you both about marriage and if you liked being together even after all this time. Do you remember the silly things you both said? I could tell you both really had grown to love each other and hoped I could someday have that kind of love for myself.
The following day I went to Granite Falls. I needed bugs again and wanted to clear my mind with the fresh mountain air. A lot had happened over the past week but I had found the woman I wanted to marry. I just wasn't so sure she wanted me. Time would tell......Speaking of time, next time we talk I'll tell you about the results of my alien abduction and Ony's decision.
