Twin boys! I still couldn't believe I was now the mother to nine. I surely did my share in helping to rebuild Murkland's population! My last two little bundles of murky love were like magnets to everyone with their cuteness. Lavender Pink was visiting one day and couldn't stop holding and caring for them. Sunshine and I took advantage of it and did some yoga to get ourselves in shape for the our soon to be toddlers.
I was in the mess hall cooking when it happened. Sunshine came running in and told me, "If you thought they were cute and stuff before, wait till you see 'em now!" He was right, they were super cute little guys. And Sunshine loved being with them. He was so encouraging with everything they tried. From building blocks to eating their trash fruit, and even running around in the nude!
I could tell he was happy and proud of his boys. He was always watching them and tending to their needs. He loved spending time with them. I only had to do a little. It gave me more time to bake which I liked doing. I made cow essence pies for the kids and they all seemed to love them. I loved seeing them all eat together. My little sunbeams.
One evening Mud finally came over to see the new additions to my family. He was sort of cold at first. Which I expected. He was upset that I had given Sunshine boys instead of him. I wasn't going to try and explain that I had no control over it all again. After a brief chat he went off to inspect the boys. Blaze showed no fear in the tall dark man who stared at him coldly in the little alley. Ray on the other hand was a little shy during his inspection. But he eventually tried to play peak a boo.
While I put the boys to bed, Mud coldly congratulated Sunshine on his sons and told him, "You seem to have gotten everything from her that I wanted," you could sense the bitterness in his voice. "Seems to me you have gotten quite a bit from her too, you know," Sunshine replied. They stared at each other for a few brief moments. You could tell neither cared much for the other. Mud didn't come by as much after that.
As the days passed the boys grew and learned more and more. Sunshine was always with them when not taking care of his own needs. He gave them everything they needed to grow healthy and strong. Most of all he gave them his love.
Of course I did my share too. I loved them dearly. We all did. No matter what they were doing someone was always near them. Star often studied for her class while sitting near them. Sometimes I thought Sunshine was Super Dad! He made time for all his kids. It was heart warming to see.
Then out of no where I had an request from Mud to meet him some strange place called Blackwater Bay. I told Sunshine and he said I should go, it might be about the final task I had waiting. So I went. I was greeted by a familiar smile and look in his eyes. It made me wonder what he truly had planned. He invited me to join him near a little pool. When I asked why we had to meet here he simple said we would be free from the Wathcers' eyes. Then he looked at me sadly and asked if I really was in love with the barefoot hippy I had back home. I told him I was and that Sunshine was an incredible father.
He began bragging about how he could have any woman he wanted, "All women look at me with that look. If they don't at first, they will in the end," he smiled a conceded grin. I told him I believed him and that if he really wanted someone to love him the way I did Sunshine I'm sure he could find it. He sort of scoffed at me. I wondered if it was his vanity that was bruised. Maybe he wanted every woman in Murkland to desire him, including me. Then he started talking about aliens and about how they were the ones really in charge of Murkland. They were devious and had betrayed him once. I was sort of confused by the things he was saying. I knew the aliens existed. They took me once when I was still working on the library. But I had no memory of what happened to me. He was saying now that he knew I had been taken by them .
Later, after he had dressed to return home, I asked him how he knew I had been abducted. I had told no one in Murkland except for Sunshine. Mud smiled his wickedly charming smile and said, "Do you forget we shared my bed once, my sweet? I have seen the mark they left upon you while you slept." I think he could tell I was embarrassed because he began to speak to me in a softer voice. "You should not be ashamed of them. I know you must be and that is why you hide them from the world. I can only assume that is why you never change your hair or let it grow." He also told me of a special dye he had to change the color of my hair if I wanted to enhance my, 'natural beauty' as he put it. I must say I left him that night slightly depressed.
When I finally arrived back home I was greeted by two of my favorite guys, Ray and Sunshine. After helping put the kids to bed, Sunshine asked about my trip and if I found out about the last task. I told him yes, that among the ramblings about the aliens, Mud had told me he wants me to buy the Puffer Dome from him. I was still feeling down about myself. My hair and my strange alien 'gift'. I asked him if he thought I was pretty. He looked confused,"Of course I do, babe, why else would I want to make so many babies with you and stuff, you know." "But, what about my hair? You don't think it makes me look old?" "It's just hair, babe. I love it as much as the rest of you." "And my..., my ears?" "You know I do. I told you before I think they're sexy." He pulled me into a hug and asked if I was going to be okay. I mumbled a yes.
The next day I was trying to clean up. It seemed no one did so while I was away. I was still feeling gloomy. I could tell Sunshine was watching me from the corner of his eye. I guess he was worried about me feeling sad. I let out a deep sigh and felt a little tug at my pants, "Mommy play?" asked one of the boys. Sunshine laughed and looked at me saying,"Why don't you let those rest," he motioned to the pile of dishes I was holding,"they're not hurting anything. Go play with the boys. It'll make you happier." I did as he said and later Dawn tried to help clean up.
A few days later I hosted a party. To celebrate being finished with my tasks, well nearly, I just had to buy the Puffer Dome. I invited as many of my murky friends as I was allowed. We had a wonderful time and only two of them were eaten by cow plants but thankfully they were spit out again. I also tried not to think about my hair and 'mark'. If it didn't bother the people who loved me, why should it bother me.
A couple of days after my party I had a small meal with Dr. George and Ren. I told them I wanted to talk about the aliens and the rumors they had heard of them being in Murkland. Ren said he felt there was a connection between the deaths at the Puffer Dome and the alien watchers. It seemed anyone who felt they were being watched or followed by a watcher was given bad fish at the Dome. There could be a connection. I wasn't sure. I told them both I'd soon be running the Dome and I'd be able to investigate more. We also talked about trying to get back into the CDC basement, but no one could find any suitable air for the bio suit. At one point Ren got angry and was about to leave but we calmed him down and I told them both we would figure this out somehow.
After that Ren came by from time to time to check on me and my family. I had told him I'd be buying the Puffer dome when the girls became teenagers. I think he was eager to see things happen. We would talk for a while before he went on about his business and became good friends. And after a while, he became sort of like a father figure to me. I enjoyed our visits.
Before long the sunshine girls aged up. Star dressed in orange and Dawn in yellow. They both kept their sunny dispositions. Sunshine still loved to hangout with them. He even offered to teach them some of his dance moves. "Your old man has some killer moves, you know," he told them while performing the pop 'n' lock move, "I got skills on the dance floor!" They both laughed at him. "Careful, Dad," Star teased, "You don't want to throw your back out!"
Since the girls no longer needed so much of my attention and Sunshine had told me he could handle the boys, I decided it was time to go and visit Mud and make that final task complete. Sunshine went with me. He said he didn't want me to come home sad like the last time I was alone with Mud. We found Mud out behind his home bathing in the little murky lagoon around his house. I told him I had his money and was ready to make the purchase. He took my money with a sly smile and told me he'd be by soon to show me how to run things. We chatted some. I could tell he wasn't too happy Sunshine had come with me, so we didn't stay long. It was past Sunshine's nap time anyway so off we went back to our murky jail house.
I was greeted by a little murky boy. My little boy. One of nine kids I had had since becoming part of the Mad Mud Faction. I loved my murky life. So much had happened and I knew so much more was to come. As I hugged that little person close to my chest I felt a sense of accomplishment and love. I had made a difference here in this murky world. And I hoped my kids would too. What ever came our way or happened next. I was sure we could all survive it, even the Puffer Dome. As long as we had each other, that was all that really mattered. And as for the Aliens and their Watchers, well we would soon find out just what they had planned for Murkland. But for now I am just going to enjoy life as it is, with my little sunbeams and their Sunshine dad. That's all for now. Thank you for letting me share my story and my murky life with you all. Until we meet again, stay murky!
