Mud showed up late the evening I had saved Fumiko at the Puffer Dome. He had heard the rumors of my flower gift to Old Grim. He didn't come into the jail though, for some reason he stood out by the gate with a sad look on his face. I went to greet him as cheerfully as I could. I still don't think he was over the fact I had chosen Sunshine to be my forever partner. I told him there were a bunch of flowers in bloom and ready for him to pick. He just stood there looking sad so I gave him a little kiss on the cheek. It made him feel better I guess because he walked off happily to pick his flowers.
My life was very busy again for the next few days or so. I had toddlers and teens to try and skill up. I really wanted to figure out what was going on at the Puffer Dome, but my kids had to come first. I loved watching them dance together. Star and Dawn were so sweet and my M&M's were not as grumpy as I thought they'd be, they had their moments but it was nothing too bad.
Muddia even took to trying to teach them how to use the potty chair. "This is the big potty. It only flushes on the water days. It's not a toy. Don't play in it!" I heard her saying to them one day. I often found her taking them to the little potty chairs. One day I invited my older kids to come visit. I wanted to see how they had all been doing and to tell them not to eat at the Puffer Dome. They told me about what they had been up to and said they'd steer clear of the Dome.
Toddler days mean messes everywhere. The sunshine girls were great at making messes! The older girls seemed to love spending time with them and helping them with there skills. Even if it meant staying up so late they passed out.
Maddy took more of a liking to Dawn. She even did her homework near her. She was doing well in most of her skills. She did seem to go thru a stage of passing out so I told her to remember to take it easy now and again. I guess she took my advice because I found her on the computer sending out chain emails and trolling the Murkland website. She was laughing such an evil laugh I knew she was enjoying it.
Muddia on the other hand liked solitude. She took up yoga and really liked what it did to her body after a few days. Although she still seemed to love cake a little too much. I got plenty of cowplant milk! Toward the end of her teen days she became a little more vain and concerned about her appearance.
Sunshine and I still managed our date night. It was good to get away from the jail, even if it was to go to the Puffer Dome. I wondered if the cook was getting better or maybe I was getting used to it. I noticed Brennachan and Veegan were here tonight enjoying a nice clean glass of water. it was actually the best thing on the menu! After our dinner, we ended our date in the usual way. A romp in the bushes.
One afternoon I found Sunshine and Star dancing together. I thought it was so sweet, to see daddy and his little one together. It gave me an idea to have a party and invite all my kids and their fathers. Well, it didn't start off as a bad party, but it didn't end great. Mud showed up super grumpy because he had misplaced his boots. He growled and complained at everyone. They tried to dance some but in the end it was a murktastrophy.
Soon my little sunbeams aged up. They kept their sunny dispositions and learned to love trash fruit. They started work on their next set of skills and Sunshine did his best to teach them about the Cowplant's cake. "But why do they have cake tongues, dad?" "To trick us into being their lunch and stuff. Just remember, if they trick you once, don't let them trick you again. A full udder is a bad udder."
They had so many questions! "Why do we have to live in a jail?" "How come I can't flush on some days but I can on others?" "Why does that creepy mad guy come over so much?" "How come you and dad use the bush at the same time?" "But where are it's eyes?" "What's a cow anyway?" But it was fun trying to answer them all.
I did notice they would often help each other with their skills or homework. I had always hoped Mud's girls wouldn't be jealous of not having their dad live with us since the younger girls got to spend so much time with theirs. Sunshine often helped his girls with their homework, but he never really seemed to bond with Mud's daughters.
One of Mud's ongoing tasks was that I keep my hacking skill up by hacking everyday. Once I was so involved in a job that didn't get to one of my cowplants in time! Who knew what Mud would do if he found out. I quickly went out and searched for another berry to replace it. Fortunately I found one a few hours after fishing. I rushed home and planted it hoping Mud would never know.
Well, the ever watchful man that he is, Mud found out and came over to give me a talking to. "I told you to treat them as one of your children," he shouted, "what would of happened if this was one of my girls!!??" I begged him to forgive me, but he acted as if he would not listen no matter what I said. Then he gave me a strange look and said, "I may forgive you if...." "If what?" I asked. He leaned closer and whispered, "If you give me a kiss." I leaned even closer and kissed him on his cheek. I guess that wasn't what he had in mind because I also had to pay a 100$ fine.
The next day was full of grumpy teens. Maddy wouldn't eat anything I made and decided to find her own food. I guess when you are that hungry you can only see the cake. Muddia was no fun to play chess with. She kept saying I was cheating. So I let her win a few times then she said I should let her win fair and square and not treat her like a baby. So later after a cool shower I danced with my sunshine girls. Muddia did join us and she apologized after a while.
The following evening I had an invite from Hank out of no where. He wanted me to go with him to Scruffy's Atomic Chili, over in Nukecrest. He said he wanted to talk about Hannah. Sunshine said he'd put the girls to bed so off I went. After Hank and I were seated, we chatted for a little about Hannah. He told me what he had been up too, and I told him about all my other kids. "Wow! Seven kids! You must be part rabbit," he joked. I asked him if he had anymore of his own. He said not yet but that he was thinking of signing up for Mud's family partner program again.
The waiter came to take our order and after he went off to fill it Hank told me, "I just hope I can find someone as wonderful as you. I would of had all seven of those babies with you if you would of let me," He smiled sort of sadly. "I'm flattered. But you know, Mud wanted a variety of fathers. I was just lucky I had so many twins to reach the six faster," I grinned, wondering if three sets of twins in a row actually counted as lucky. Then I told him, "Besides, I'm sure you will find someone way better than me. Someone who can love you the way you deserve." Then our food came and we ate in silence. When it was time to go, he gave me a very close hug and said, "Thanks again for letting me share Hannah with you." Then we both headed our separate ways home.
When I got home Sunshine was waiting up for me in the garden. I told him about the little chili diner and some of what Hank and I talked about. As I talked I could tell he was not his normal bubbly self. "So you like, get to go out with an old flame and stuff, while I sit here playing daddy daycare?" "What are you talking about? You know I never liked Hank that way!" I replied. He started complaining about being couped up in the jail all the time and about not being able to do what he really wanted. "What is it you want me to do?" I asked worried and scared. I couldn't believe we were even arguing!
"Stop taking orders and stuff from that crazy old mad man for one, you know," he replied angrily. I almost felt like crying. I couldn't understand what brought this on. I tried to explain to him I had to obey Mud's commands, he was our leader, and how I was just trying to make Mud happy. I was trying to make the kids happy. I was trying to make my friends happy. And I was trying my best to make him happy. What more could I give if my love was not enough? He looked at me sheepishly and said he was sorry. "It's just, you know, I want to have more kids and stuff, with you. But Mud has all his rules on stuff and things. It's like hes God or something and we have to ask him before we can even use he bush, you know. " "More kids?" I asked. He nodded. I should of guessed he would feel this way. Sunshine was an amazing father.
"Well, if this is what you really want," I began. "It is. It really is," he told me, "It's like, seeing those little people we grew from our love and stuff is like magic. I love every second of it, you know." "Well then I guess I'll just have to see what I can do about that," I smiled at him with that flirty smile. But inside I was wondering what on earth I was going to say to Mud. I just hugged Sunshine as close as I could. Surely one more baby wouldn't be that big of a deal.....
