Sunday of week ten I woke murky and happy. Most of my plants were at the perfect level. I actually only had a couple more left to work on, and they were only one level away from perfection. Soon after I finished my morning gardening, Dusty showed up to visit for a little while. We joked and laughed and built our friendship some then she left.
I made myself some more 'stink be gone' cream then was going to go collecting but noticed the Mayor passing by looking really sad. When I asked him what was wrong, he told me about what was left of the gym here in Murkland. He had just fixed it up some and hired someone to work as a trainer. He wanted people to sign up for memberships. But so far no one was joining. I told him I'd tell my friends about it and maybe some of them would join. That seemed to cheer him up, he walked off happy.
After he left I decided to head to the gym myself and see what was going on there. When I walked in, I saw Sunshine punching on an old punching bag. I was going to go say hi but was stopped by a few people who were wandering around. Heather B. Simster was there and I also met a guy named Hank. He was a really friendly chap.
I talked with them both for a while, then I noticed Sunshine glancing at us and smiled. He didn't come say hi, instead he disappeared somewhere behind the gym. After I finished talking, I went over and tried out the punching bag. 'Wow, a person sure got murky fast using this thing!' I thought. While using it, some guy showed up and started yelling commands at me. "Straighten your wrist!" "Put your whole weight into it!" Turned out he was the gym instructor hired by the mayor. His name was, Eli Thacther.
We talked for a little bit and I told him I would be happy to help him get more people to join. I even had an idea but that we should keep it secret for now. He was so happy to have some help and gave me a big hug. I was hungry and told him I'd make us some potatoes and we could talk some more. While we were eating we both smelled something really stinky. It was a very murky and sad looking Sunshine. He grabbed a potato, sat down and started cramming his mouth.
I greeted him happily, despite his almost grumpy behavior. I figured maybe he was just sore and hungry from his workout, or maybe he felt gross from being so murky. I told him a little about my idea for getting people to come here, and I also explained that it might be a way for us to see more of each other, since this was a place he liked to hang out at. He seemed to like that idea and I gave him a big hug to reassure him that he was my favorite murky man. He left happier and then Eli challenged me to a push up contest.
'What a really long day,' I thought later when eating my trash fruit. I was about to crawl into my tent when Forest Tree showed up and invited me to go with him to some new dance club in Nukecrest. "I heard this place is crazy fun!" He exclaimed when we stepped off the bus. Veegan had come with us and he was already out on the dance floor so I joined him. Later I found Forest sleeping on a bench and thought it was a great idea so I did the same.
When I finally woke up, no one was around so I went back home and took care of my plants. Since it was finally Monday, I wanted to soak some at the hot springs and invited a few friends to come with me. I built my friendship with Autumn and Willow, and talked a little to some of the Cliff Dwellers. Soon the late night caught up with me and I passed out in one of the bushes.
I woke some time later, alone but feeling refreshed. Now I knew why Sunshine was always sleeping in these things. Speaking of Sunshine, when I was getting ready to eat some grilled fruit I found, he showed up and joined me. He said he had been thinking about me and my gym plans and that he would be happy to see me there and looked forward to spending more time together. "It'll be like taking a step out to deeper waters, and stuff. And you know, I feel like I am so ready for that," he told me.
He also told me was willing to wait for me to finish up my projects now. He realized he didn't want to go out swimming with some one who wasn't ready to play in the water. Just as long as I didn't find someone else to splash around with. I always had to smile at the way he compared our relationship to being in water together. Especially since it was a precious thing here in Murkland.
Tuesday I was applying the deodorant cream again so I could tend my plants. Then garden work followed by old baked potato breakfast. I was trying to be cheap to save up my money faster. That afternoon I met Pookey out walking and told him that soon I'd be having sales at the gym. And that evening I got dressed up to go hang out at the music festival lot.
Well, no sooner had I shown up there, then the bus driver pulled up and told me Sunshine was waiting for me at the Puffer Dome. So I went. He wanted to talk more about my plans for the gym. I told him I was going to try and sell the deodorant cream I make. That way people wouldn't feel so murky in between bath days and they could work out more. I also told him I would be secretly living there so I could help teach the trainers about herbs. He seemed kind of anxious about me spending so much time with Eli, so I tried to reassure him the best I could. Then he excused himself and disappeared at the back of the restaurant.
I didn't have to go look for him, I knew he was probably sleeping in a bush. I swear the man has low blood sugar or something that makes him sleepy and pee a lot! I ordered some fries from the bar and tried to eat my frustration away. Then out of no where a waiter in a creepy dark hooded robe showed up and stood next to me, staring at the plate of fries. I greeted him but he just kept staring. I nervously left, still holding my plate. This was another one of those crazy ending days.
Wednesday, after my garden work and some collecting, I went back to the music festival lot, since my visit here last night was cut so short. Ronni Gurlz was there and Sahara. I danced and talked with them for a bit. Willow Creek showed up later and told me she had heard about my plans for the gym. I guess Sunshine had told the other Freegans about my secret plans...hmm. Then we shot off some of the fireworks.
Kaci the hermit was in town and stopped by the lot when she saw the fireworks. I talked to her for some time and was getting ready to leave when Sunshine came walking in. I was sort of upset with him for telling about my secret plans. I didn't care if the Freegans knew, I would of told them myself, it was just, I didn't really know who all he talked to about it. I told him it was late and I was just leaving. He sort of looked sad and said goodnight.
Thursday morning I was covered in murkiness and had to clean up once again to tend my garden. Afterward I practiced some on my guitar. I noticed Pookey walking down the sidewalk all dressed up again. I sang along to the music I was playing,"There was a man named Pookey, and for Murklander, he dressed kookey...," it still needed some work. Later I headed back to the gym. Sunshine was there but he left before I could talk to him. Then Eli showed up looking extremely buff. 'What has he been doing?!' I couldn't help but wonder.
He told me he had been working out non stop since I last saw him. I asked for a few pointers and he gave me some tips. After my workout, Hank the inmate walked up and gave me a random hug. He smiled at me and said he hoped I'd be coming back here more often. Not wanting to get anymore random hugs from strange guys, I decided to head home and call it a day.
Friday I woke up early, I wanted to fertilize my garden so I packed on some deodorant. My plants were doing great. I was so close to having them all reach perfection, the wait was killing me. Later that afternoon, Sunshine invited me over to hangout. When I showed up he took me to one of the bunk rooms so we could talk privately. I think he guessed I was upset and started to apologize. He was still in the middle of talking when Veegan came in and sat down on the bed.
"Are you talking about your secret gym plans?" he asked, "We are all pretty excited to see if it works. And don't worry we won't tell the Mayor." I grinned. I knew now I was just overreacting. I didn't care if the Freegans knew. They were some of my most trusted friends here in Murkland. And Sunshine trusted them too. "Yeah, you know, Styles has all kinds of great ideas, and stuff," he chimed in. Afterward, the three of us ate dinner and talked for a time. Then I gave Sunshine a hug goodbye and headed home, happy we were back to 'normal'.
Saturday, while eating breakfast, I saw Brennachan out jogging. She had been in such a happy mood lately. I also worked some on my bonsai plant. I loved the positive mood it gave me. Later in the afternoon, I practiced some on my guitar. Part of my gym plan was to pretend to be hanging out there to busk for tips, so I wanted to be able to sound half way decent in case the mayor showed up. Jeep Girl also showed up to visit for a while.
After she left I saw a little girl walking by. I could tell from the markings on her face that she was related to the man I had met last week. Her name was, Rocket Engine. I told her to tell her family hello for me. Then I had a short visit from Lavender Pink. That evening I went down to fish for a little while. I caught some fertilizer and then tended my plants before heading to bed. Another week complete.
